Announcing the winners of RAID’s ‘Your research in one photo’ competition
In August 2023, RAID invited its members to enter ‘your research in one photo’ competition. We all know that effectively communicating your research involves much more than just publishing a paper. This photo competition saw people from across Australia and parts of the world submit photos during fieldwork, lab work and travels that acted as a visual aid to explain their research. Photos are a powerful way to communicate scientific results, giving your study context and drawing readers to your work and RAID received some fantastic entries.
Congratulations to our winner Anan Afzal, and runner up Luch Hac!!
Empowering women in dairy farming
WINNER – Anan Afzal
“In the picture, two women farmers are seen measuring the feed for their animals, a step they’ve taken after acquiring knowledge about animal nutrition. This newfound understanding aims to enhance the production of their animals (milk and meat), subsequently lifting profits. My research focuses on assessing the effects of farm advisory services on both farm productivity and household nutrition. By ensuring animals receive appropriate nutrition, the potential for higher milk and meat yields is heightened, contributing to the food security and livelihoods of farming households.” – Anan Afzal.
Cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus)
RUNNER-UP – Luch Hac
The most destructive insect on cowpea.
RAID would also like to thank our judges, Sabrina Velasco and Lachlan Hall for their time and expertise in choosing our winners.
Until next time, happy snapping!!
