Women in Agriculture Webinar Series Part 3 – reflection

In our recent webinar, Women in Agriculture Series Part 3– From grassroots to global impact: women leading agricultural change, featuring Dr Humera Iqbal and Dr Shumaila Arif, the speakers shared candid insights into the challenges women face in agriculture and international development. They highlighted the realities of working in male-dominated spaces, where women often have to constantly prove their credibility, and described the cultural shifts required when moving from local contexts in Pakistan to global platforms.
Both speakers emphasized the critical role of mentorship, professional networks, women-led forums, and family support in navigating these challenges and sustaining leadership journeys. They also noted the persistent gaps in leadership opportunities, including limited visibility and access to decision-making platforms, and stressed the importance of creating inclusive spaces where women’s voices are valued.
Their reflections reinforced that leadership is nurtured through vulnerability, courage, and connection. As Brené Brown reminds us, “Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s the birthplace of courage and strength.”
