RAID is launched!
The international development community is facing an uphill battle in attracting young scientists into the exciting world of agricultural research for development.
Researchers in Agriculture for International Development (RAID) is a new Australian-based network that is taking on this challenge by connecting, engaging and supporting early to mid-career agricultural scientists working, or wishing to work in this space.
Jack Koci, a founding member of RAID, explains we want to help address the decline in agricultural research capability in Australia, by encouraging young agricultural scientist to expand their horizons and see the positive contribution they can make in Australia and abroad, by working in international agricultural research for development.”
RAID will achieve their goal through a number of platforms. “Our website, which has just been launched, provides an online platform for knowledge and resource sharing, promoting opportunities (employment, further study and volunteer posts) and for sharing experiences. We will also facilitate networking at conferences and other professional events and organise informal workshops to encourage capacity building.
We want as much member input as possible – the success of the network really depends on the ideas, knowledge and enthusiasm of our members.”
