Value Chain Economist – International Development – Plant & Food Research

The Plant & Food Research’s International Development Unit (IDU) partners with government, NGOs, and commercial organisations to support sustainable development to reduce poverty and improve lives. Their current portfolio of projects in horticulture and seafood is concentrated in SE Asia and the Pacific but extends to Africa and the Caribbean. This role will complement the Institute’s strong technical skills, bringing value chain analysis experience within a development context.
What you’ll be doing
As a seasoned international development professional, you will provide leadership and value chains expertise in the design and implementation of the international development programs. As their leading economist, you will identify strategic opportunities for PFR to leverage economics and social science capabilities in the development of new projects and programs, together with playing a key role in impact evaluation.
What you’ll need
To be successful in this role, you will have a PhD or Masters by Research in economics or agricultural economics, preferably undertaken in an international development context. You will bring a substantial amount of experience leading and collaborating on international development projects, be a collaborative team member and have an ability to demonstrate an understanding of best practice approaches to international development.
